How Does a White Boy Out Sushi The Masters?
Good question. The Eater did an article on Sushi Dojo where they focused in on our top chef and co-owner David Bouhadana. He has been confusing the entire industry since the grand opening of Sushi Dojo in the summer of 2013.
The restaurant and sushi bar has been attracting a steady flow of great press, been named to the “top” and “best of” lists — like the top 35 sushi bars in America, and top sushi bar New York, and David was named as one of the “30 under 30” in ZAGAT.
Top Sushi Chef
Top sushi chef David Bouhadana was recently interviewed in a four minute video by ZAGAT. What makes Sushi Dojo one of the top sushi bars in New York City (NYC)? Sushi Dojo has repeatedly been named to sushi “top lists” and “best of” lists by ZAGAT, Thrillist, the Village Voice (who referred to Sushi Dojo as a raw fish temple), the New York Times (who stated it “is sushi worth getting crazy for”), and the Haberdasher Standard who called it the “best sushi restaurant in Manhattan.” So what is the magic of this little place tucked away on 1st avenue in the east village of New York? It might just be a French-Moroccan Jewish kid from Florida.
Sushi Dojo Selected as one of best Sushi Resturants in America
Sushi Dojo Selected as one of best Sushi Restaurants in America by The Daily Meal. The magazine does a profile of chef david Bouhadana, referring to him as “a 28-year-old Florida native who’s nothing short of a sushi wunderkind.” They say that he shows you corners of the sushi universe that you didn’t even know existed. “He’s chatty, funny, humble, extremely knowledgeable about every cut of fish, and, most of all, he takes what he does very seriously.”
To be included in the top 35 Sushi Bars in America is a great accomplishment, and like David, we humbly say thank you to the Daily Meal for thinking so highly of us.

High-quality and intimate sushi dining experience says Downtown
High-quality and intimate sushi dining experience says Downtown magazine, referring to the newly-opened Sushi Dojo at 110 1st Ave (between 6th and 7th). They note that the space itself is very small, simple, and cozy: it is almost all wood with comfortable black seating for 36. The sushi bar takes up much of the restaurant.
